Pink Christmas (by Jay)

This tutorial came about when I was playing with the main image above.
She was dressed in a bright red coat, I wanted a dusky pink, so decided to change it.
There are tutorials on this blog on how to do this, but I'll run through it again as I go.
Of course, it's a winter tag and anyone that knows me, knows I can't have winter without snow.

FOR THIS TUTORIAL YOU WILL NEED
 1 MAIN IMAGE,
1 FRAME
1 BACKGROUND
SELECTION OF ELEMENTS

I have included those I used in the zip file.

Plugin Filter VanDerLee Snowflakes.

Animation Shop

Open a new image 700 x 700 pixels.

Open your frame.

Resize by 65% making sure resize all layers is checked.  See below.

Decide what colour you want to use in your image.
I liked the dusky pink look, so went with that.

Go to Adjust/Hue and Saturation/Colorize

Move the sliders at the bottom, labelled hue and saturation

The colour I picked is above.  Click ok

Copy and paste the frame into your 700 x 700 image.

Open your background.  I didn't colour this, but it's up to you.

Edit/Copy

Make sure your magic wand is set like this.

Go to your frame and with your magic wand select the inside of the frame.

Selections/Modify/Expand x 6
Layers/New Raster Layer
Edit/Paste into Selection.

Select None.

Layers/Arrange/Move down

This will move your background below your frame. Layers/Merge down.

This is what you should have now

Now to play a bit and colourize the other images.

I'll start with the main image, the red coat.

Use your lasso tool set like this

Draw around the coat taking small but not too precise moves, then click your left mouse button as you go.
Zoom in and you will see the path I took with lasso tool.
You don't need to be fussy where there is no image, it's just an empty layer.

Just do one side at a time.

Go back to Adjust/Hue and Saturation that you did earlier.
The settings should still be the same and click ok.

Select None.  Move to the other sleeve and do exactly the same thing.

Do the same with the elements.

To colourize the bow with the silver centre,
I want to keep that the way it is, so get your selection tool, set it to circle.

If you look closely, you'll see that marching ants around the centre.
If you are a bit off with the circle, select the mover tool, move over the selection,  right click on your mouse and keeping it pressed in, you can move the selection wherever you want to.

Selections/Invert

Go to Adjust and do the hue and saturation thing again.  Your bow will be coloured but your centre will still be silver.
Use this method for all of your elements.
Put them together the way you want them.
This is mine.

Before I merged the layers, I x'd out everything except the frame.
With my selection tool I drew a circle around the inside of the frame.
Make sure you are on the frame layer in the layers palette.
Duplicate this layer 2 times more.

Create a new layer and go to Plugins/VanDerLee/Snowflakes.

Depending how much snow you want, this is how my settings were

For each of your new layers move the Random seed over by about 20 each time.
Move to the next layer and do the same.
You will find a few tutorials on how to make snow on the blog.
You could also use a snow animation if that suits you better.

My finished result is at the top of the page.
I hope you have fun with this one.
