CREATING SCRIPTS FOR BORDERS by Brenda
I discovered scripts some time ago after repeatedly using selections/select all/float/defloat/modify/select/selection borders/ (any number) to create borders around shapes, text, and tag backs. I decided to try recording and saving a script that would make all of those steps become one easy step. Once I had experimented and deleted a few, I found the perfect one! It's easy, and once you have it in your scripts file, you can access it any time you want a border around you text or other items.
Let's begin,
1. Open a 600 by 600 blank canvas.
2. Choose a font of your choice set to size 50. (You can create bigger font the script will work once done on ANY SIZE) It will also work on ANY image you want to put a border on.
3. Turn foreground color off and background color to a color of your choice. Be sure foreground color is off. Some people use foreground color to when doing text, but the text is then compressed and loses some of it's clarity. It also makes it much easier to fill or glitter your text without the border being applied at same time as typing our your text.
4. After you follow the above, with font selected, set to size 50, type out HELLO. Right click on layer palette and covert to raster. Now we are going to record your script.
5. Go to file - SCRIPT - Start Recording
NOW FOLLOW these steps CLOSELY.
Go up to SELECTION/SELECT ALL/FLOAT/DEFLOAT/MODIFY/SELECT/SELECTION BORDERS/OUTSIDE/5/ADD NEW RASTER LAYER.
File/SAVE RECORDING. Box will open to allow you to name the script. Mine is named BORDER.
HINT: The border width, the 5 following word borders, can be changed to wider or smaller when the box opens while script is running.
Now, selections/select none.
6. You should have just your text on your canvas now. Your recording has been done. File/script/run/box will open/look for your border/click on it. It will apply the selection right down to adding the new raster layer, which you can then flood fill the selection with color of your choice. You will note when box opens during running of script that it shows the width as 5, you can lower that if you want smaller border or raise it if you want wider border!
Before you merge the text down into your border you can apply drop shadow to give it a lifted look, and you can apply filter to the letters for pattern:
Let's try a glitter text with the already recorded script/border. By the way when you record the script it will go into your TRUSTED script folder.
Choose another color for background color, foreground off, and a script font. Type out with font size set to 100. Convert to raster. File/script/run/your border script/when box opens turn border width down to 4. Flood fill selection on new layer with a shade in same color but at least two shades darker.
Go back to the text layer and effects/3d effects/drop shadow/3/-3/Opacity 30/Blur 2.00
Now, effects/filter effects/DSB Flux/add bright noise/75/layers/merge visible/save as PSP 1.
(Be sure if you crop your text before you apply glitter)
Edit/undo merge/undo noise
Redo noise at 80. Merge visible/save as PSP 2
Edit/undo merge/undo noise
Redo noise at 85. Merge visible/save as PSP 3.
Open your animation shop. File/animation wizard/next/next/next/frame properties 9/add images 1 2 and 3. Finish. View and save.
Note: the now saved glitter hello can be applied to any tag you wish by simply opening your tag, select all/propagate paste then opening your animated HELLO. File/select all/copy. Back to your opened tag and paste into selected frame in the position you want!
Here's the same script used to apply border to a shape:
You can glitter or apply a filter to the inside of the shape or even on the border. For this border when my script box opened I adjusted the border width up from 5 to 8.
Now on the title box at top of this page:
This was done using the same script three times.
First I drew out my shape. Objects/align/center on canvas/convert to raster layer. You can use any shape, remember there is a shape library at the blog.
Then I used a filter to get the paper texture inside the shape.
File/script/run/border script. In the box I adjusted the width from 5 to 8 for the shape border. Flood filled with a darker shade. Name NOISE 1.
I then selected a font, typed out the title/file/script/run/border/adjusted width to four. Flood fill new border selection with white. Applied drop shadow to text of 2/-2/Opacity 30/Blur 2.00. Named text NOISE 2.
Then I chose another shape to create the two flourishes in the corners, I drew the shape out, applied the filter Scanlines first horizontal then vertical to get the gingham effect, then opened the border script and ran it with size adjusted to 4, flood filling new selection on new layer with darker shade. I applied drop shadow same as above then merged the shape down into the border. Image/duplicate/mirror image.
Once you have that all done you use the same DSB Flux filter to apply noise to the text and the shape border using the same process as the HELLO glitter text.
Now that I have this BORDER script I never have to do the select/select all/float/defloat/modify/select/selection borders/outside/and number again! In fact, wherever you see that in my tutorials you can now use your new BORDER SCRIPT by simply adjusting size to desired width!
Does not matter if it's text or shape or image, it will work on all!
I'd love to see some of your results in group!
