Making frames, flowers and alphabets are as easy as 1 ... 2 ... 3
So let's start with the basics!
Your homework today: Frames .... Flowers ..... Matching Alpha
Down ELEMENTARY SUPPLIES HERE
Open supply folder and place the preset shape files in your PRESET SHAPE folder, found in MY PSP FILES OR you can import directly into your Paintshop/Corel/preset shapes
Open the pattern files and place in your pattern folder.
The filters used: Penta/Dot and Cross/Jeans and Dots
Photo Effex/Scanlines
(Although you can apply any filter effect you may like for inside your frame edges, alphas and flowers.
Let's get started.
1. Open a 900 by 700 pixel blank canvas.
2. Find FRAME JOB_BG 50 preset shape.
Set Foreground to white.
Choose a pattern from your pattern file. I chose one of the aqua white polka dot patterns I included in your folder.
3. With line width set to 6, draw out the shape in the middle of your canvas. Objects/Align/Center in canvas. Convert to raster layer.
4. Selections/Select all/Float/Defloat/Modify/Select Selection borders/4 - add new raster layer below the layer you are working on. Keep border selected, but move down to new raster layer and flood fill the selected area with a color that will complement the color in your fill.
What a cute frame! You can use any colors, any patterns, and even filters to fill a solid color. Let's see how.
5. Draw out same frame, with foreground set to white, line width 5, and background set to a solid color. I'm going to use the same blue as above but add a filter pattern. This allows me to have matching frame sets! Once you have it drawn out to a size you like, use magic wand to select inside the flower. My result below:
(Always remember to convert the vector frame to raster layer)
6. With inside still selected, I used Effects/Filter effects/Photo effex/Scanlines with these settings:
7. First apply with VERTICAL NOT checked, then apply with VERTICAL checked. My result:
Just imagine the multitude of frames/colors/patterns you can create with just this shape. Let's try another!
8. Select FRAME JOB_BG 6. Set foreground color to white, background to any pattern or color you choose. I am choosing purple polka dots (provided to you) for my pattern. Follow the same exact instructions as above. Every frame you make can be done with the provided shapes, and the instructions above and here. Shape + foreground color + background color, pattern or filter. Let's see how the purple came out:
Solid color with Scanlines applied:
Scanline settings: (Remember to toggle from Vertical to NOT vertical to get the gingham.
I gave you MANY frame shapes in your folder. You can also create a shape out of a solid shape. For an unusual frame effect.
9. Open SHAPE 633. Set your foreground color to a color or pattern of your choice. Close out background color. Set your line width to 18. Draw out your shape onto your canvas. Do not expect to see the solid shape, you will see only the outer edges which will give you the frame effect. This is mine:
You can choose to add a lighter or darker border, by Selections/Select All/Float/Defloat/Modify/Select selection borders/5 - add new raster layer, move below, flood fill the still selected new border with color of choice. (Or you can leave as is for a solid frame).
I added these effects to my new frame:
This was done with the PENTA/Dot and Cross Filter.
Now you know how to use a solid shape to make an outer frame. Once you get the hang of this you will be turning out lots of frames in different colors, patterns, shapes, etc! I gave you many shapes, so let's see what you can do with FRAMES.
LET'S MOVE ON TO FLOWERS
1. Open FLOWER CART_BG 16 shape. Set line width to 5. Foreground color white, background solid color or pattern. I am choosing an aqua polka dot to go with frames I made. These flowers can be clustered around frames, so making complementing flowers for them is fantastic!
2. Draw out your flower on your canvas. Medium size. Objects/Align/center in canvas. Convert to raster layer. Selections/Select all/Float/Defloat/modify select selection borders/5. Add new raster layer, move below flower, with wand still active flood fill the new border with a slightly darker color than the interior of your flower. Once you fill it, move this layer up over the flower layer.
I now have this:
3. Let's add some stamens. Draw out FLOWER CART_BG 44. It will be only about half the size of your flower. Objects/Align/Center in canvas. Convert to raster layer. Effects/3d effects/drop shadow/2/-2/opacity 30/Blur 0.
4. Let's now select our ELLIPSE, line width 3, with foreground set to white and background set to a solid color from your original flower, draw out the center of the flower. Objects/Align/Center in canvas. Convert to raster layer. Select inside the center of the flower on your solid color and Effects/Filter Effects/Photo Effex/Scanlines/ Settings above, but only with VERTICAL not checked. Layers/Merge down, name your flower. Here's mine:
5. Let's try another flower! Open ANY of the FLOWER CART flower shapes I provided. Set foreground color to white and background to color or pattern of your choice. Line width 5. (Using solid colors will allow you to apply filter effects, so keep that in mind.
6. Draw out your flower. Objects/Align/Center in canvas. Convert to raster layer. Use your magic wand to select your white or solid border of the flower. Once selected, effects/3d effects/drop shadow/-3/3/Opacity 30/Blur 2.
7. Duplicate/Image Resize/78%/All layers NOT checked.
8. Duplicate/Image Resize/78%/All layers NOT checked.
9. Duplicate/Image Resize/78%/All layers NOT checked. On this final duplication/Effects/3d effects/drop shadow/-3/3/Opacity 30/Blur 2.
10. Effects/Filter Effects/Eye Candy/Impact/Glass. These settings:
That top number is 6.92.
Layers/Merge Visible/Save your flower.
Let's try this with a pattern now.
11. Draw out same shape, foreground white, background pattern. I am choosing a ladybug type pattern. Objects/Align/Center in canvas. Convert to raster layer. Selections/Select all/Float/Defloat/Modify/Select selections borders/5/add new raster layer, move beneath flower, flood fill with darker color from pattern. Move this over the top of the flower. Merge down.
12. With foreground set to white and interior set to solid color from the pattern (I chose red), line width 5, draw out another flower three quarters of the size of first flower. Objects/Align/Center in canvas. Convert to raster layer. Select inside the flower on the red (or your color) with magic wand. Effects/filter effects/Penta/Dot and Cross with these settings:
13. With flower STILL selected after filter effect/Effects/3d effects/Drop shadow/-3/3/Opacity 30/Blur 2.
14. Foreground white, background a complementary pattern, (I chose red with black polka dots). Line with 4. Draw out flower, 3/4 size of 2nd flower. Objects/Align/Center in canvas. Convert to raster layer. Use magic wand to select the outer white border of the new flower. Effects/3d effects/drop shadow/-3/3/Opacity 30/Blur 2.
15. Turn off foreground color, set background color to a darker color within your images. I am using black. Draw out FLOWER CART_BG 44 (The flower stamen) smaller than the third flower. Objects/Align/Center in Canvas/Convert to raster layer. Effects/3d effects/Drop Shadow/-3/3/Opacity 30/Blur 2.00.
16. Line width 3 and foreground color white, background color solid, ( I am using red from my flower). Draw an ellipse in the center of the flower, smaller than the stamen. Objects/Align/Center in canvas. Effects/Filter effects/Alien Skin/Impact/Glass (same as above.) My finished flower:
You can create frames to match your flower clusters. I did this with the shape above and same process. You then add the flower or flowers, and I added a few little ladybugs I had. You can also add ribbon. Continue layering and adding and you will have a cluster frame.
I want to see frames and flowers, frames with flowers added, in addition to ribbons, and embellies you may have! Can't wait to see!
MATCHING ALPHAS
You will need a fat or chunky font to do a nice alpha.
You can do these with white border, added border, pattern backgrounds, filter backgrounds, etc.
BASIC ALPHA
I used BROWN font. Foreground white - background the red with white polka dots to coordinate with ladybug flowers and frame.
Set font size to 200. Draw out the A. Convert to raster layer. Selections/Select all/Float/Defloat/Modify select selection borders/5 - add new raster layer, move it below your letters, flood fill with a darker color in the new layer. Move new layer over the top of your letter. Layers - Merge down. You've done your first letter. You can also add little embellishments to the corner of the letter like this:
I can't wait to see all of the things you come up with, your only limit is your own imagination!
Frames ..... Flowers ..... and Alpha!
Ready to create? Let's go!
