 SILVER SCREEN BEAUTY SUPPLY DOWNLOAD

The Silver Screen, straight from the 1940's and 50's! Before my time, but because my grandmother, mother and aunt were such avid fans of the great silver screen actresses, I grew up watching along with them.  Lana Turner, Bette Davis, Gene Tierney, Vivian Leigh, Susan Hayward, Rita Hayworth, and of course Marilyn! The list goes on an on.  They simply don't make movies the way they used to.  We're going back to that simpler time, when movies inspired, when you could make it through a two hour with the whole family in tow!  For purposes of this tutorial, I am using Gene Tierney, one of my very favorites.  She was a true beauty.  You can use any of the actresses found in the file or one of your own!

Hurray For Hollywood!

Open a 1200 by 1100 pixel blank canvas.

Choose a pattern from the supply folder OR one of your own.  Keep in mind we will be doing this tutorial in black and white, with just a touch of color in the eyes and on the lips!

Put your chosen pattern in the foreground and white in the background.

Select the ellipse in preset shapes and with line width at 15 draw out an ellipse in the middle of your canvas.  Go up to objects/Align/Center In Canvas.

Layers/Convert to Raster Layer/Rename Tag Back 1

Selections/Select All/Float/Defloat/Modify/Select Selections Borders/8

Layers/New Raster Layer/Move beneath Tag Back 1

Flood fill the selection with black.  You will now have this:

Open your chosen actress tube and copy and paste onto TAGBACK 1.  Apply drop shadow to your actress to your liking, but be sure to apply.  Without the shadow the tag is flat.

I chose Gene, her eyes were green, so I am going to colorize her eyes green, the her lips red.  Those will be the POPS of COLOR in an otherwise black and white creation.

Zoom in and using the freehand selection tool CAREFULLY outline the eyes in your actress. Be sure to NOT include the pupil.  HOLD down SHIFT KEY while outlining so you can move to the second eye and keep your previous selection active.

With eyes still selected go up to ADJUST/HUE AND SATURATION/COLORIZE/CHOOSE YOUR COLOR.  Mine is green.

Selections/Select None

Now you are going to do the same exact process with the lips.  You can play with hue saturation to get varying colors of red/pink.  Carefully outline the lips, being sure to not grab up portions of the skin surrounding the lips.  Adjust/Hue and Saturation/Choose your color.

This is mine:

Layers/New Raster Layer/Arrange/Send to Bottom/Rename Mask Layer

You should now have this and your layer palette should have each layer named.  TAG BACK 1, ACTRESS, and MASK LAYER in that order in the palette.

Image/Resize/60%

Now you can apply "elements."  I've provided several for you in the folder.

So far this is what I have, and this leads to animating the clapper board.  In order to do that, choose the SILVER SCREEN CLAPPER BOARDS from your supply folder.  Move the open board into a position you like on your tag.  Make sure when you use pick tool to arrange it you also adjust/sharpen.  Once you have it where you want it, copy and paste the closed board and use the pick tool to place it directly over the other board, perfectly aligned.  Once you have it/ adjust/sharpen, arrange, move down so it is below the open board.  Apply drop shadow to each of your elements.

Open tag back constellation.  Copy/Edit/Paste As New Layer.  Position it over TAG  BACK 1.  Rename Constellation.  You will now have this:

Crop your image to equal amounts around entire image, leaving about a half an inch on each side.  Go to bottom mask layer and flood fill with gray.  Choose one of the masks provided or a mask of your own and apply the mask to the bottom layer. Duplicate the mask, then merge down.  Arrange mask to your liking.  This is what I chose:

Go to ELLIPSE and draw out, line width 3 an ellipse on top layer directly around your TAG BACK 1.  This will be where you will apply text on a curve.  Once you have the ellipse in place, leave as VECTOR.  Select TEXT tool.  Choose a background color like WHITE or RED so that it shows up nicely on the dark background.  Begin on the left side of the ellipse and type the words in the font of your choice, I am using Silver Screen Beauty.

My font is MUSTARD script, set at size 26.  I use WHITE as my background color, no foreground color.  I begin on the left side of the ellipse vector and type out SILVER SCREEN BEAUTY.  Once I have it like I want, I go to the layer palette, expand the vector by clicking on the little eye next to it, go down to find the ellipse, click off the ellipse.  Back up to text, up to OBJECTS/Convert Text to Curves/As a Single  Shape.  Convert text to raster layer. Apply drop shadow of 2 - 2 Opacity 30 Blur 0 to text. I now have this:

Now if you choose NOT to animate, name your tag and save!

NOW... you can save here, OR you can open the "Fairy Dust" animation MNG file in your supply folder and apply to the tag as well.  Click on the MNG file and say OPEN WITH ANIMATION SHOP.

It will open there.  Edit/Select All/Copy

Bring your tag to the top and Edit/Select All/Paste into selected frame. I chose to place the fairy dust at the bottom of the actress tube.  This is what I now have:
